Scratch LoopsForever, Repeat & Until
Master all three types of loops in Scratch. Learn how to animate sprites, draw shapes, build timers, and create game logic — all using loops!
What is a Loop?
🔁 What is a Loop?
Imagine you want your sprite to move 10 steps — not once, but 50 times in a row. Would you stack 50 "move 10 steps" blocks? That would take forever! A loop solves this: it runs the same blocks over and over automatically, without you having to repeat yourself.
✅ Without a loop (messy!)
move 10 steps
move 10 steps
move 10 steps
… (×50 times)
✅ With a loop (clean!)
repeat (50)
move 10 steps
end
Done in 2 lines!
🧠 Key Idea
A loop is a block that wraps around other blocks and runs them multiple times. Scratch has three types of loops:
- Forever — repeats endlessly
- Repeat (N) — repeats a set number of times
- Repeat Until — repeats until a condition becomes true
🌍 Real-world analogy
Think of brushing your teeth. You don't just move the brush once — you keep repeating the motion for 2 minutes. That repetition is a loop! Every time you go back and forth, you're running one iteration of the loop.

Interactive Loop Simulator
Experiment with different loops and see how they work!

The loop will repeat the action exactly 5 times.
What's Happening?
The Repeat loop runs the blocks inside it a fixed number of times. Right now it will repeat 5 times. You can change the number and see how it affects the animation!
