Chapter 10 Notes
Unit 3 Database Management · Chapter 10
Table Operations & Relationships
Master relational data links in LibreOffice Base: Defining Relationships (1:1, 1:Many, Many:Many), Enforcing Referential Integrity, and Configuring Delete/Update Cascades.
Chapter 10 Theory
1. Types of Table Relationships
One-to-One (1:1):Both associated columns are primary keys. Exactly one row in Table A matches one row in Table B.
One-to-Many (1:N):Most common. A primary key row in the parent table links to multiple rows in the child table.
Many-to-Many (N:M):Multiple rows in Table A link to multiple rows in Table B, requiring a bridge junction table.
2. Referential Integrity Action Options
No Action (Default):Rejects deletion of parent row if child records exist.
Update / Delete Cascade:Deleting parent row auto-deletes all linked child rows.
Set NULL:Sets foreign key column in child table to NULL on parent deletion.
Set Default:Sets child foreign keys to a default value upon parent deletion.
