Chapter 12 Notes
Unit 3 Database Management · Chapter 12
Create Forms and Reports in Base
Master the presentation and data entry layers of LibreOffice Base: Building Interactive Forms with Controls and Subforms, and Formatting Printable Reports with Grouping and Static vs Dynamic Modes.
Chapter 12 Theory
1. Forms & Form Controls
Common Form Controls:
- Text Box: Alphanumeric data input.
- Check Box: Logical Boolean (Yes/No) fields.
- List Box / Combo Box: Selecting from predefined lists.
- Date Field: Date entry with drop-down mini-calendar.
- Push Button: Saves records or navigates forms.
Subforms in Action:
A Subform is nested inside a master form to display linked child records (e.g. Master Form displays Student details; Subform grid displays all books issued by that student).
2. Reports: Static vs Dynamic
Static Report:
Captures a fixed data snapshot at creation time. Historical figures do not change even if the database is modified later.
Dynamic Report:
Re-runs the query live each time the report is opened or printed, guaranteeing current up-to-the-minute information.
